Celebrating 103 Remarkable Years with Mary Alice

The Ventura Townehouse is honored to invite our community to a very special celebration: the 103rd birthday of our beloved resident, Mary Alice. Please join us in marking this extraordinary milestone on Friday, October 17, from 2–3 p.m. here at the Townehouse. There will be a classic car cruise-by located in the roundabout at the main building.

A Life Rich with Talent and Family

Born in Chula Vista in 1922, Mary Alice grew up in San Diego County and filled her early years with music and movement. She studied ballet in high school, sang soprano in choirs and choral groups, and played piano. As her daughter, Lynn Kempton, recalls, “She loved ballet, music, and singing. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and playing bridge well into adulthood.”

Mary Alice’s career began as a telephone switchboard operator, later working for major companies across Southern California. While at Rohr Aircraft Company, she met her future husband, a machinist who eventually became a company buyer. Together, they built a life centered around family and community.

Over the decades, Mary Alice has seen her family blossom: she is the proud mother of three, grandmother of nine, great-grandmother of 21, and even a great-great-grandmother of two.

A New Chapter at the Townehouse

Mary Alice moved to the Ventura Townehouse in 2016, first residing in an independent living apartment. In 2021, she transitioned to Memory Care, where she continues to receive the support and compassionate care of our dedicated team.

Her daughter Lynn shares, “The Townehouse has been a wonderful home for my mom for almost 10 years. The Memory Care and Assisted Hospice teams have been, and continue to be, terrific caregivers for her. She’s enjoyed the activities, outings, and the vibrant community here.”
