Barbara Morris was born September 9, 1949, and was raised on a farm in Harrisville, Mississippi. Barbara has 11 siblings (6 brothers and 5 sisters). Her parents raised all her siblings in church, where she became very active. Barbara was a Sunday School teacher, choir director and the choir president. She also worked in the Home Mission Society, and Sunday School Baptist Training Union. Barbara was also a member of two quartet singing groups, the Singing Inspirations and the True Believers. Both singing groups kept her busy spreading the gospel traveling all around Mississippi and surrounding states.
Barbara graduated from high school at New Hymn Attendance Center and attended college at Prentis Normal Industrial Institute and took courses at Hinds Community College. Barbara later married and had two beautiful children, Christopher Black and Kenyata Black. When Barbara was not raising her children or going to church, she was working! Barbara worked at Magnetk (a manufacturing company) for 23 years and was also the supervisor of the Marriage Casino Resort, where she held that position for eight years. Barbara enjoys helping others and has participated in numerous community service events around the city. She loves to travel. Some of her favorite places were Tokyo, Japan, Yokosuka, Japan, and the Bahamas. She loves to take cruises from time to time.
Barbara moved to Ventura last year to be closer to her oldest son Christopher Black and his wife Rosemary Black, but also to be closer to her grandchildren. Barbara has two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren that live in Bakersfield, CA, and she loves to spend time with her family as much as possible! In her spare time, she loves to dance, read the bible, and help others. You can always catch Barbara with a smile on her face!

My grandmother lives at the Ventura Townehouse and I feel confident that she is in good hands. They get her to her appointments and provide any aftercare that she may need. Everyone there is friendly and like family. I feel like I’m at home when I go there to visit her and eat with her in the dining room.
Recently, I visited my Mom from Chicago. Each day I offered to take us out and about in Ventura. We found ourselves having such an enjoyable time at the Townehouse we didn’t leave. The dining room was so lovey to enjoy with her friends. Patios welcoming and the activities kept us busy. We laughed and had fun all day! Thank you everyone for making me feel at home and making my visit special. It’s always hard to leave my mom. But not as hard when I know she is so happy! Until my next visit!
