The Adventures of Ms September 2021, MJ Murphee

Posted on: September 1, 2021

Our Ms. September, MJ Murphee, was raised in Garden City, Long Island, New York and spent summers between Jones Beach on Long Island, Camp Kokosing in Waterford, Maine, and her family farm in Vermont.

She graduated from college in Kansas where she met her husband. They had two children, a boy, and a girl. When the children were 8 and 10 years old, she decided to go back to school and become an RN. They became active in the American Royal Horse Show, which was a big deal in Kansas City.

One of the guests was Lorne Greene, who played “Ben Cartwright” on the TV show “Bonanza.” They were assigned to take him to the airport, and guess who got to sit in the middle and got a big smooch from big Ben!

MJ says she’s had the good fortune to travel quite a bit. Some of her favorites were the crossing on the QE-2 from New York to South Hampton and returning on the Concord.

She and her husband almost got to play golf with Sean Connery at St. Andrews. He was on the 18th, and they were teeing off on one. Some other memorable trips were Buenos Aires around the Horn to Cheloe, Egypt and the Pyramids, etc. and animal Safari in Africa.

Our Happy Residents
  • My grandmother lives at the Ventura Townehouse and I feel confident that she is in good hands. They get her to her appointments and provide any aftercare that she may need. Everyone there is friendly and like family. I feel like I’m at home when I go there to visit her and eat with her in the dining room.

  • Recently, I visited my Mom from Chicago. Each day I offered to take us out and about in Ventura. We found ourselves having such an enjoyable time at the Townehouse we didn’t leave. The dining room was so lovey to enjoy with her friends. Patios welcoming and the activities kept us busy. We laughed and had fun all day! Thank you everyone for making me feel at home and making my visit special. It’s always hard to leave my mom. But not as hard when I know she is so happy! Until my next visit!
