October at the Townehouse
A Season of Celebration, Community & Care
As the leaves begin to change and the air takes on a crispness unique to California autumns, Ventura Townehouse ushers in October with heart, harmony, and a healthy dose of sparkle. From Breast Cancer Awareness to a Broadway-inspired concert, heartfelt resident stories to festive outings, this month is filled with moments that honor the richness of our community and the remarkable people who call it home.
Breast Cancer Awareness Celebration
Wednesday, October 8 | 2:00 PM | Vista Room
We invite all the marvelous women of the Townehouse to wear pink and raise a glass in honor of strength, survival, and sisterhood. Champagne, laughter, and heartfelt celebration await as we recognize the many roles you’ve played—as mothers, wives, widows, and women of wisdom. Your stories inspire us all.
Encore Evening with Renee Hamaty: The Best of Broadway
Saturday, October 11 | 6:30 PM Cocktails | 7:00 PM Concert | Vista Room
Back by popular demand, pianist Renee Hamaty returns for a night of Broadway favorites. Join your friends for a pre-show cocktail, then enjoy an evening of show-stopping melodies and unforgettable performances.
Welcome, New Residents
William Strnad
Born and raised in Chicago, Bill served 22 years in the Navy as a medic and commissioned officer, including during the Vietnam War. After retiring, he and his wife raised two children in San Diego, and Bill went on to a second career at H&R Block in Ventura. Now happily retired (again), he’s looking forward to new friendships at the Townehouse.
Richard Roper
A Los Angeles native, Richard served in the Korean War and enjoyed a long career at Edison as an inspector. He and his beloved wife Arlene raised three children and treasured time with their grandchildren. Richard enjoys games, reading the newspaper, using the gym, and spending Sundays at church in Ojai. His dog Pepper is a frequent visitor and dear companion.
Calling All Singers!
October 29 | 3:00 PM | Vista Room
Join our resident choir as we prepare a set of holiday songs for December’s concert. Accompanist Barbara Reed will be joining us. Have a favorite tune or want to sing a solo? Let Anne know!
Celebrating a Milestone: Alfred Phillips Turns 100!
Al was born in Brooklyn in 1925 and has lived a life rich with love, learning, and music. A WWII Army Tank Corps veteran, professional baseball player, educator, jazz enthusiast, and family man, Al’s contributions to education and the arts are extraordinary. A Townehouse resident for 10 years, we are honored to celebrate this momentous occasion with him. Happy 100th Birthday, Al!
Acts of Kindness
Laundry Love Visit
Representatives from Laundry Love stopped by Thursday night bingo to thank our generous residents for supporting this local program. By providing laundry services for unhoused and struggling families, Laundry Love makes a difference—and so do you.
Employee of the Month: Anell Roque
Anell has been part of the Townehouse family for 9 years and is known for her infectious smile and dedication. She loves celebrating with residents and says this is the best place she’s ever worked. Congratulations, Anell!
Gratuity Fund Reminder
As the year winds down, we invite you to contribute to the Gratuity Fund—a meaningful way to thank our dedicated staff for their care and commitment. No donation is too small; every bit is appreciated.
