What is Senior Memory Care?

Senior memory care involves a cluster of specialized services that can aid individuals experiencing memory-related issues, especially seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

It can be difficult for families to assist their senior loved ones who have developed one of these illnesses. They may be reluctant to re-situate their family in a care facility, but at the same time feel overwhelmed by caring for them.

Finding a senior living community you can entrust with the care of your loved one is challenging to navigate. You want to be sure your loved one entering a senior living community will receive the best care possible. You want your loved one to be cared for by a team with the correct training and amount of dedication. Choosing carefully is the only way to ensure your family member with Alzheimer’s or Dementia receives the care they need.

At The Ventura Townehouse, we take great pride in ensuring seniors dealing with these issues are comfortable. Our memory care units are relaxing, welcoming cottages. These features are designed to meet the specific needs of individuals with memory impairments in mind. A soothing, homelike environment helps reduce discomfort, confusion, and anxiety.

Beyond these quality living standards, our team also provides activities designed to help stimulate and improve memory and possibly slow dementia progression. To encourage senior wellness, residents can take part in music, games, craft projects, and more, keeping their minds alert and allowing them to socialize and have fun. The Alzheimer’s Association recommends many of these activities, in addition to a few new ideas. We highly suggest that families stay involved and visit their loved ones to provide additional activities and company.

Our empathic, well-trained staff provide emotional support, medical care, nutritious meals, and assistance with ADLs (Activities of daily living) such as grooming, ensuring they are dressing themselves, eating, etc.

We also take safety measures, such as installing high-tech security around the cottages to ensure the safety of your loved one. Our residents enjoy freedom of movement with the help of staff while staying in a secure, home-like environment. Dementia patients can not just live, but thrive in assisted living senior communities.

Placing your beloved elder in a senior living community can sometimes be a daunting task. We take this decision seriously as well. The Ventura Townhouse provides a safe and comfortable environment where your loved one will be treated with care and dignity in a resort-style setting.

To answer a frequently asked question, it’s important to know that Medicare currently covers inpatient care in a hospital and certain doctor fees for seniors with dementia, aged 65 or older. Medicare also covers up to 100 days of skilled nursing home care in specific, limited situations. (For instance, after a hospital stay.) Unfortunately, long-term custodial nursing home care is not part of Medicare coverage.
