“Years ago, my mom lived at the Townehouse, so I decided it was time for me to follow in her footsteps. Being a newcomer to the Townehouse has required some time to become adjusted to the routine here, but I am truly enjoying the process while meeting nice people along the way.
“I am enjoying my studio apartment, the fellowship, the food, as well as many other activities. I recently found myself attempting to shoot some basketballs through the hoops in the garden! I am attending all the exercise programs to keep this 94-year-old body in shape.
“To start from the beginning, I was born in the hospital in Ventura and taken home to live in Simi Valley where my mother’s family had lived for three generations. Her grandfather, SMW, Easley was one of those involved in the formation of Ventura County as it separated from Santa Barbara.
“I graduated from Simi Valley High School in 1948 and spent a year at Pasadena City College before my marriage to a handsome young chiropractic doctor who had just opened an office in Simi Valley. He had already met my mother at a dinner she had prepared for the Lions Club. When he saw me at a local swimming pool with mom, he knew who to ask to find out where we lived. He showed up unexpectedly and I was embarrassed because I was in gym shorts and my hair was in pigtails. We began dating while I attended Pasadena City College. Our only transportation was his big Indian Chief motorcycle; it was cold in winter!
“I later began helping with patients in his office. We were married April 9th, 1950, and worked together in the office for forty-two years. We were married for sixty-nine years when he passed away in 2019.
“We loved camping and eventually climbed Mount Whitney. We also taught basic Bible study at our local work furlough jail facility. In the past I was part of the music team playing the piano at the River Church.
“I am looking forward to meeting more people and joining in with all the activities.”
