Welcome to Angie Cuevas!

My name is Maria Angela Cuevas, but I go by Angie. I joined the Townehouse community in August and have loved my time here so far! I have enjoyed getting to know the staff and residents, who have been so kind.

A little about me…I was born at Rancho Camulos Ranch which is located a few miles east of Piru, California in 1939. I am the youngest of 10! After graduating from Fillmore High School, I became a beautician and worked for two years in the San Fernando Valley. Soon after, I met the love of my life, Gil, and we were married in 1961 and spent 57 years together. We raised two children, Mark and Debbie, in Oxnard, California. I have two beautiful grandchildren, Amelia and Erik.

My husband was a high school counselor who, with my help, founded an organization called Future Leaders of America in 1982 – a non-profit youth leadership development program focusing on helping students better understand the operations of our American system of government. It started as a weeklong summer camp but by 1986 Future Leaders of America had six affiliate regions throughout California. It is still around today and open to all academically qualified students but composed largely of Latino students. During this time, I went back to school and became certified as a preschool teacher. I worked for 12 years at the Oxnard College preschool center and loved spending time with children.

Once widowed, I devoted more of my time to my Catholic faith by helping others through a program called Many Meals. I enjoyed preparing food for those in need. After raising kids, helping my husband with Future Leaders of America, and helping to raise my grandchildren, I look forward to spending my time in the beautiful surroundings at the Townehouse. I am excited to meet new friends, tend to my plants, and enjoy everything the Ventura Townehouse has to offer!
