In her own words…
“In the beautiful land of Southern Africa in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), I was born in 1942, the youngest of four children. My family lived about 10 miles from the city center. I attended secretarial school and worked for Rhodesian Railways and took a transfer to Salisbury (Harare). In Salisbury I met Ned Kelly on a blind date. We dated for three months. I went to London and with a friend, hitch-hiked from London, to France and Spain. Surprisingly, while traveling, I received a proposal letter from Ned. We were married in 1963 and had three sons Sean, Niall & Ciaran.
“We left Africa for better opportunities in America and settled in Rye, NY, where we raised the boys and I enjoyed quilting, barbershop singing, tennis, gardening, plus other interests. As a family we moved to Pacific Palisades, CA, where we lived on and off for forty-two years while also living in Managua, Nicaragua, Americus, GA, Southport, NC, and several years back in Harare, Zimbabwe, mostly with Habitat for Humanity. While at Habitat for Humanity, I worked in the Women’s Building Program and led teams on home building in Northern Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Armenia, New Zealand, Mongolia, Chile, Jordan, Argentina, and Fiji.
“My six grandchildren live in Seattle, San Francisco, LA and New York. I enjoy playing cards, doing puzzles and crosswords, reading, and meeting people.”
